There’s no doubt that Bollywood actor and former Miss World Priyanka Chopra Jonas has come a long way. After working on several notable Indian projects, the actor has now moved to the US with her husband, American popstar Nick Jonas, while cementing her name in Hollywood.
Chopra is currently readying herself for her upcoming project, a spy-thriller, Citadel, which also stars Game of Thrones actor Richard Madden. The show is helmed by Avengers: Endgame director duo, Anthony and Joe Russo. In a recent interview with Bloomberg, the Quantico actor was asked about the change she has witnessed in Hollywood over the years.
“I think what really changed is streaming,” the actor told the publication. “When streaming came in, the need for globalisation became just important. The biggest obstacle that I think I faced as an Indian actor was the limited view of what I was capable of. It has been a massive change and I am very, very proud to have colleagues and peers that have the strength and the bravery to be able to swim through dense water that has kept us out for a very long time, and actually demand a seat at the table.”
In the same interview, Chopra said although there is still ‘a long way to go’, she remains optimistic about the future. “When it comes to the arts, we are always going to push the envelope to make sure more inclusion happens,” she said. In her upcoming show, Madden and Chopra play Mason Kane and Nadia Sinh, the former members of the independent spy agency Citadel, which was brought down by a crime syndicate called Manticore.
